What are the components of electric power steering system (EPS)

2024/9/25

The full English name is ElectronicPowerSteering, referred to as EPS, which uses the power generated by the electric motor to assist the driver to steer. Its composition, different cars although the structural components are not the same but roughly the same. It is generally composed of electronic control unit, torque (steering) sensor, motor, gear reducer, mechanical steering device, speed sensor and power supply and other components.

Component knowledge (Mechanical part)

The basic composition consists of the following 12 parts:

(1) Motor (2) worm (3) worm gear (4) Torque sensor mechanism (5) Potentiometer (6) Motor connector (7) Torque sensor connector (8) Energy absorption sleeve (9) Steering disc lock device (10) Switch support (11) Lower support (12) vibration damping gasket

Steering wheel torque sensor

Used to measure the torque of the steering wheel and the direction of rotation. Electric power steering system torque sensor has contact and non-contact. Considering the cost, contact torque sensors are generally used.

Electronic power motor and deceleration mechanism

The electronic power motor is used to achieve the power of the steering system, and the minimum requirements for the power motor are: large power torque, small moment of inertia, small torque fluctuation, large power density, easy control, and high reliability. At present, the electric power steering system generally uses permanent magnet DC brush motor and DC brushless motor. Dc brush motor technology is mature, the controller is simple, low cost. The brushless flow uses electronic commutation, no maintenance, high power density, but high cost.
